welcome, friend, and may the sun stay 'til tomorrow to light your path. the sun stays 'til tomorrow is a literate and realistic role-play based on the discord platform. focusing on the fate on skyclan after they were so curtly purged from the old forest.
rather than disband and fall apart, skyclan remained determined to find a new home on a great journey, and found it far south of the mountains right on the eastern british coastline: on what the clan calls the sunrise sea. they established new cultures, such as fernclaws and leafclaws, and established new traditions, essentially rewriting themselves but never forgetting what the forest did to them.
having turned their backs on starclan the moment they left the old land, skyclan has walked without ancestors to look towards for five leaderships. this means that leaders only have one life, and medicine cats are unable to convene with ancestors - but they don't mind at all. after all, starclan is basically a silly kit's tale now! ...right?
but not all is peaceful, as one might imagine, for built-up tension between leafclaws and fernclaws is reaching a pinnacle under a dramatic change of leadership. welcome to the sun stays 'til tomorrow!
april 27. happy opening day! today the plot kicked off with fennelsky's new amendment to skyclan's rules: that if a kit must follow the paths of their parents. so if a kit's parents are leafclaw, they'll be leafclaw, and the same goes for fernclaws! if you're mixed...? well, according to fennelsky, you shouldn't exist at all.
april 13. congratulations to claire & litten for being picked as clan deputy and head leafclaw! our official opening trajectory is the last week of april; get those keyboards ready, fennelsky's keen to begin things with a controversial bang.

our story begins with the first breath of newleaf, a fresh sprig of hope after three moons of snow, frost, and the end of loner's blight pandemic, a mysterious disease passed unto skyclan by a group of hostile, sickly rogues that invaded the territory in late leaf-fall, leaving the clan wary, weary, and sorrowful.
recently appointed deputy fennelbranch has stepped up to become fennelsky, the leader of skyclan, as the clan grieves and grieves deeply for the death of the last leader sunsky, a kind-faced fernclaw who had led fairly for ten long years. he hid his sickness from the clan, passing away abruptly and unexpectedly in his sleep from loner's blight. but there is more than sorrow for skyclan to anticipate. relationships will be tested and loyalties tried in coming seasons.
join us as skyclan anticipates this new leader, and what changes are in store for all warriors in skyclan: for better, or for much, much worse.

it's newleaf! the temperature averages between 9.3°C and 14.9°C. the temperature is cool, as the sunrise sea runs a fresh coastal breeze through the territory.
dawn frosts become less frequent and the days begin to get longer. regardless, the season is still wet and windy.
what makes this different. You'll notice that we have a couple extra 'high ranking' cats in SkyClan! SkyClan has a leafclaw and fernclaw subsystem - not unlike the 'moor runners' and 'tunneler's featured in the original WindClan. but one deputy can't control both - so SkyClan implemented a head fernclaw and head leafclaw to cater to their specific warriors! Both of these ranks report to the deputy or leader if they can't fix a situation themselves; they are considered part of the Clan's social hierarchy.
Head fernclaws and head leafclaws don't anticipate succeeding the Clan leader when they step up to this role - often, the ranks come together and vote on a new 'head' when an old head retires, is exiled, or passes away! You can even challenge a head fernclaw/leafclaw for a duel and take over their position if your character feels they're inept.
Head ranks are allowed to, essentially, boss around the warriors of their respective subranks and help the deputy sort patrols and keep cats in line. They're often part of the leader's close social circle. You can lead events, make events, and most importantly - leave it up to more than just the "token three high ranks" to determine how our story unravels.
responsibilities. Deputies, as you all would likely know, are IC and OOC helpers to their leader - and their successor, naturally. They organize and spearhead patrols, help host events and other stimulating feats in role-play, and most importantly - are next in line to take over SkyClan. They're the cats to herald in a new age following the death of their predecessor.
All that I ask of you all is be able to be active and engaging on the Discord! Maturity and confidence is a bonus, as well as creativity in helping shape the story not for "the high ranks' story" but for the story of each and every member of the role-play! Long-term responsibility is a plus, as well, one that I hope is maintainable on the Discord/site platforms!
Medicine cats are the tertiary unit, the healer: they are responsible for making sure their clan is safe, well-fed, and healthy. They are renowned for reading the world around them for omens and foretelling how SkyClan will prosper - but this depends on the cat, really, and how in-tune they are with the elements.

deputy prompt. The leader is ill. Leaf-fall is upon the forest, and a stoat has been tearing up prey on the moor which was attracted the attention of a hungry fox. Patrols are tense because it is affecting the hunting grounds of both the leafclaws and fernclaws (the Sun Birches); approach this situation and determine a resolution.
medicine cat prompt. A leafclaw apprentice has been brought in after falling from the Sky Oak and breaking her leg. Her training partner hastily and nervously explains that they were messing around while branching and she fell and landed terribly. Approach this situation.
head leafclaw prompt. A recent storm has knocked a series of large, heavy branches down from the Skyway and obstructed a primary fernclaw hunting area down below. The fernclaws are becoming ornery about it, and demand action from the leafclaws to fix the issue. Rally and send out a leafclaw patrol to remove the debris and settle the tension.
head fernclaw prompt. Fernclaw patrols have reported sightings of a loner walking the grounds near the Shellprint Cliffs. Take this into account, make a report, and then dispatch a party to chase the loner away from SkyClan's territory - and moreover, half of the fernclaw hunting grounds.
As her time in SkyClan progressed, her personality changed from an innocent kit to a headstrong and tough she-cat. She views herself highly, showing off her achievements. She needed to keep a stern hold on her position in SkyClan, a clan that values its bloodlines and its ranks. Being born to a loner and a SkyClan warrior, Whiteholly knew she needed to be tough as nails to make it big.
(+) While her overbearing personality may be viewed in a bad light, she made sure to use her toughness for some good. Whiteholly is dignified, able to stay composed in the most dire of situations. She is definitely headstrong when it comes to her ideals, thinking that the cats of SkyClan are equal, no matter their rank or lineage. Finally, Whiteholly is charismatic, finding those viewed as 'lesser' and hoping to help them understand that they will always be equal to those of pure lineage.
(/) Whiteholly is a stern mentor and deputy, expecting the best out of everyone in the clan. If she isn't met with the absolute best, she is determined to help those around her improve their skills. Whiteholly entered the clan incredibly ambitious, focusing on being the best she could be in an attempt to prove to SkyClan that a cat viewed as 'imperfect' can become a well respected member of her clan.
(-) Whiteholly is naturally defensive when it comes to her past. With her short temper, she may lash out aggressively should someone disrespect her or anyone close to her. Whiteholly is incredibly proud of herself when it comes to her current place in the clan, which can teeter into arrogance. With her sharp tongue ignited by a short temper, Whiteholly isn't a cat to be underestimated.
Brief History Overview: Born to the SkyClan warrior Dusktail and the lone she-cat, Molly, Whitekit was taken to SkyClan by her mother in the hopes she could grow up with the rest of Dusktail's family. There, she was taken in by her Aunt's family, and grew up with them instead of her own parents. She and her adoptive siblings got along decently, and with the hesitant persuasion from her adoptive mother, Nimblebriar, was steered towards the Leafclaw rank. As an apprentice, she clawed her way to the very top, becoming a highly skilled apprentice at an early age, and continuing to take that rank through her apprentice moons. Whitepaw became a Leafclaw warrior, and gained the name Whiteholly, for her sharp nature.
Role-Play Sample: He could feel himself warm easily to the newest pair. Anwarha and Fleurry, huh? Seeing the bear's movement, he did just that, albeit a bit awkwardly, like he wasn't supposed to be sitting there among good friends. Ah, so that would explain why Anwarha smelt different than the rest of the animals here. "Mm, I thought so. Your scent is much different than those of the mountains. Where are you from, if you don't mind me asking?" He'd inquire, genuine curiosity shining through now that he had grown more comfortable around the others. While he did roam alone for most of his life, he hardly strayed outside of the mountains, so he was unfamiliar with most of the surrounding areas.
"Ah! I almost forgot! My name is Light, and it's a pleasure to meet you all," He murmured, giving a tiny smile towards the two. His attention turned back to Iben as he spoke, and he nodded in understanding. However, his smile fell a little at the question, but from the tone of the polar bear's voice, he sounded more curious than judgmental. The tingling sensation that had formed in his paws eased away after a moment, and he furrowed his brows in thought. To be honest, his instincts told him to dig more than power through, for energy is crucial while in the wild, especially in an area he was unfamiliar with.
"Well.. I suppose I wanted to conserve energy as best as I could while in unknown territory. Even if I did make it through the blizzard unscathed, what if I ran into something that I needed to fight, or needed to run from? To power through that blizzard would cost precious energy and strength, something one needs out in the mountains," He said, pausing for a moment, "It did cost me time, that's for sure, but I like to be safe than sorry. Who knows what's out there with you." He hoped that wasn't a bad answer, and after he realized he had ranted, his ears lowered, and he muttered a quiet 'sorry'.
A kind, gentle tom who looks forward to helping others as best as he can. Very caring towards others, however this ends up making him forget about himself (What is sleep?) and leads to stressing over small issues somewhat often. Kind of paranoid about diseases. Tends to be too trusting and may end up being biased sometimes.
Brief History Overview:
(To be edited if medicine cat role isn't earned!)
Hazelkit was a regular kitten; however, for his Leafclaw parents, his short tail meant a bad omen. As an apprentice, Hazelpaw now realized two things which would deviate him from his predicted path as a leafclaw: One was that his short, stubby tail didn't give him the best balance for climbing and the second was that, once he managed to climb a tree for the first time, he would soon realize that he LOATHED heights. As he grew, he distanced himself from his siblings, which were both skilled apprentices who would soon become leafclaw warriors. In his distancing, he grew a liking for flowers and herbs, soon taking apprenticeship under the clan's medicine cat, to which his parents were neutral about (well, at least he wasn't a fernclaw). He then he earned the name Hazelflower, his suffix pointing his gentle personality - and his liking for flowers.
Role-Play Sample:
Hazelflower hummed a cheerful beat, shaking his short tail from one side to the other as he organized his herbs. He couldn't be happier; it was a peaceful, warm day, the clan seemed to be in good spirits and he had managed to get more than three hours of sleep during the night! As there weren't any major injury or disease cases inside the den, he could give himself time to sort out his supply and weed out what was no longer usable. Being himself, Hazelflower had neatly organized the herbs by their healing properties (and, although he wouldn't admit, by the scents he liked best). Yes, today was a good day.
However, his peace didn't last long: A yowl of pain cut through the den and made the tom jump, his short tail bristled and looking much like a rabbit's. Turning around, the cat would look over as two mollies came in, one in clear pain while the other seemed distressed. With a worried chirp, he would trot over to them, helping the injured one to a moss bed. "What happened?!" He asked in a worried tone, his ears perked forward as the other warrior tripped upon her own words as she nervously explained what had happened. He then looked at the warrior which rested upon the bedding, her leg pulled back against her.
"Oh, gee..." Hazelflower mumbled, flicking his short tail around. "O-okay. It'll be fine! Here, let me see..." He then sat down, asking the other to stretch out her leg. As the warrior hissed in pain with the movement and her partner seemed to become even more stressed, he sighed. A broken leg was a difficult thing to have, especially as a leafclaw. "Alright. It seems to be broken..." He whined, swallowing as both seemed to not take the idea too well. Turning around, he would go to his bundle of neatly organized herbs. "Hold on a second!" He meowed before rummaging through them.
As he moved back to the cats, he dropped his items in front of them: two sticks, bindweed and a poppy. "Alright," Hazelflower purred, shaking the poppy in his mouth so seeds would fall off. He then nudged them towards the injured cat. "Here, it's going to ease your pain. You, take some too! They're great for calming and soothing the spirits." He purred at the one watching over her friend, who hesitantly licked and chewed some seeds. As both had eaten them, he grabbed the sticks and placed them on the injured leg, one on each side. "Oh, sorry if it hurts now. But it's necessary so it heals well!" The medicine cat trilled happily before picking the bindweed and gently moving it around to fasten the sticks to the leg, mumbling a soft "sorry" every time the molly groaned in pain.
By the end of his work, Hazelflower purred proudly. "There you go! It should be better in no time... Oh! Wait! I think I have some broom left. It'll help the leg heal better, and since you're a leafclaw, you need that leg looking super sharp!" He beamed with a wink at the two, which now seemed calmer due to the seeds.
Once the herb was chewed to a poultice and applied to the leg, to which he joked about knowing it was kind of gross, he smiled to the warriors. "There, now it's good. You should be good to go in a few moons... Now, please, be more careful about the trees..." He shuddered at the mere thought of climbing the Sky Oak. "You're lucky you got a broken leg. It could have been far worse. Stay out of trouble, okay?" He asked, smiling as the two nodded. "Good. I will let you nap now, both of you. Take a nice break." Purring, Hazelflower turned back and made his way to his flowers, back to sorting them as if nothing had happened.

For the most part, Astertail is a collected and reserved senior fernclaw. a very loyal and dedicated warrior, she always places her Clan's needs before her own. Astertail takes her duties very seriously, sometimes to the point of overworking herself to exhaustion. She is a sharp-witted cat, often taking time to think things over rather than acting brashly on impulse. Interestingly, she is exceptional at reading others and is highly intuitive. While she does not particularly dislike them, she is cautious of outsiders and is slow to let down her walls around most everyone. Those who know her well have most likely witnessed her duality firsthand, however: deep down, she is affectionate, charming, and even has a pretty decent sense of humor.
[attr="class","genin"]
history
Astertail formed a very close bond with her sister and parents very early on in her kithood, and cares deeply for them to this day. In their apprentice moons, the girls were both exceptionally good despite being some of the youngest apprentices in the Clan, and they were certainly inseparable partners in crime. Whenever one got themselves into trouble, the other always shouldered some of the blame.
Some time into their training, Asterpaw got into a messy training accident, and Lilypaw was the first to visit her in the medicine den. Fortunately, her injuries were minor, and she recovered in full and with high morale. Both sisters trained as fernclaws, and their hard work earned them their right to warriorhood.
As Astertail grew older, she began to realize her love for her work as a fernclaw, and spent all waking hours practicing her abilities even beyond apprenticeship. Years spent tirelessly training ultimately earned her the respect of her fernclaw comrades and even some of the leafclaws despite the boundaries that their differing abilities formed. While she is not a cat who seeks any position of power or authority, were it to fall upon her shoulders, she would readily rise to the challenge given that it was for the sake of her fellow SkyClanners.

This would make the second report that Astertail had received in regards to a loner wandering their borders. It wasn't her first time dealing with strangers on their land, nor did she suspect that it would be the last. Unfortunately, this particular feline was causing quite a bit of trouble for her especially. They were, as she understood it, prowling a fernclaw hunting hot spot and thus delaying their hunting patrols. It would not do to let this carry on any longer than it already had.
Minutes prior, she had been speaking with the head leafclaw to discuss her plans on removing this loner from the territory now that they knew for sure more than one cat had seen them. It was her intention to pinpoint their most recent location via the help of the tree-dwelling felines who could observe from the canopy. They had reported finding this stranger earlier that day, and that they were actively hunting uncomfortably close to their border.
"Fennelsky," the she-cat greeted, a polite but earnest request to speak with the leader. Once permission to engage with him was given, she began calmly. "Pardon the intrusion." She dipped her head. "As I am certain you have been made aware, there has been word that a loner hunts within our southeastern border. Starlingleap's leafclaws have gathered that this cat is currently active within our territory. I intend to bring a small number of fernclaws to be rid of them as soon as you authorize the party."
Their conversation was brief, but ultimately drew to a close with Astertail's desired outcome. Slipping through the camp, she had an accurate guess as to who was or wasn't in camp at the time. Bearing this knowledge in mind, she assessed the situation, and finally organized a patrol of 4—including herself—to confront this foreigner for what she hoped was both the first and last time.
Forum Username: Litten Discord Tag: xcaliel#0304 Desired Role/Rank: Head Leafclaw Character Name: Shellshade Character's Age: ~35 moons, ages on 4/7
Short Personality Description: Shellshade is almost the definition of a wallflower: soft-spoken, reserved, and even a touch awkward at times, depending on the situation. When he does converse with another, it's normally through clipped, to-the-point sentences: one will never catch him rambling on about something, or even initiating a conversation. Despite his lack of social skills, however, he's a fine leafclaw and takes his duties seriously (for the most part, anyway), even if he's not the best of the best and he knows it. He doesn't let this fact get him down, however: once he finds something to work for, or even to protect, he will strive to better himself in whatever way he can. This mindset shows that beneath his reclusiveness, Shellshade is quite the steadfast individual, perhaps even responsible if you push it.
Brief History Overview: Shellkit was born to Softjay and Magpiemask one calm evening, the only kitten in his litter. He was a strong kitten, benefiting greatly from the extra milk he was able to suckle (having no competition certainly had its benefits, after all) and grew quite quickly; perhaps even a bit too quickly. He was always a bit mature for his age, and distant from his denmates- sure, he might've wrestled once or twice if they poked at him enough, but he'd never truly befriended any. Such remained the case until his apprenticeship, and he was assigned to Mapleblaze for him to look after and teach the ways of a leafclaw.
Shellpaw's training was quite uneventful, nothing too astounding occurring throughout. Aside from one thing, at least: Shellpaw grew close to Mapleblaze, finding a friend in the older tomcat and growing to respect and admire him greatly. Shellpaw graduated on a sunny day during leaf-bare, a rare occurance, after passing his three assessments with flying colors. He was named Shellshade, both for his rather shy personality and his commendable stealth while performing the sky-ambush.
Unfortunately, not all good things last. As the Loner's Blight swept through SkyClan, Mapleblaze, Softjay and Magpiemask all fell ill with the mysterious disease. None recovered, and all three succumbed to the Blight, leaving Shellshade alone and broken. The unfortunate incident simply made Shellshade recede further into his 'shell' of sorts, simply observing from afar and never bothering to get too close with any others.. should the same sad fate befall them, too.
Role-Play Sample: After almost an entire week of nonstop downpours, the angry, cloud-filled sky was finally clearing up. Thunder, lightning, and harsh winds had plagued the territory alongside the rain, making hunting or patrolling almost unbearable: one could barely step outside their den without getting soaked, let alone leave the camp! The leafclaws especially were affected by such an event--strong winds meant extreme danger while branching or skimming the boughs of the skyway, and the rain-slicked branches only added to that. For once, the leafclaws had to rely on the fernclaws to bring in land-prey, much to their contempt. The brawny bush-dwelling brutes were all so smug about it, too: they didn't let the tree-faring cats go one minute without knowing where their food came from, and it had begun to get on their nerves. Now, with the storms gone, such a thing wouldn't happen any longer.. or so Shellshade had thought.
Clearly, he was wrong.
Astertail had first informed him of the issue, and then a slew of other fernclaws like Hemlocknose and even Cottonsnarl had approached him and complained of it. The issue was nothing that the fernclaws themselves couldn't fix, but obviously it was the leafclaws faults that the storm had rid the Skyway of a few of the heavier, older branches, ones that had been splintering and on the verge of falling for quite a while now. It was unsurprising that the winds had knocked them down at last, but was it really a problem for the leafclaws?
Well, no. It wasn't, or normally wouldn't be--that was what Shellshade thought. But, after the fernclaws had provided for them for so long.. this was an opportunity to force the land-dwellers to stop being so smug, he supposed, and even out the score. After all, without the help of the leafclaws, the fernclaws would lose their best hunting spot.
So, resigned and, quite frankly, annoyed by all of the reports, Shellshade went and gathered a patrol. Skipperclaw, Cloudjumper, Silvernettle, Kiteleaf and Shellshade himself were all dispatched to the meadow, trekking through the mud and wet undergrowth until they finally reached the site of the fallen branches. From there, it was easy (but taxing) work to break off into twos or threes and heft the debris onto their backs, depositing them elsewhere. Somewhere out of the way. Well.. maybe not completely out of the way--just enough to not block off anything, but still positioned to annoy the fernclaws a bit. Just a little. A nice little prank!
Job done and companions snickering over what they imagined the fernclaws reactions to be, the patrol began to meander home, though a few broke off to play in the trees or hunt along the Skyway while they were out. Shellshade chose not to, instead heading home and reporting to both Fennelsky and Astertail to inform them that the task was complete. He left out just where they placed the branches, however. That could be a nice surprise for the fernclaws later on.
short personality description. kiteleaf is skyclan incarnate, proud of her pure skyclan, pure leafclaw bloodline. she is a strict feline and goes out of her way to make sure things remain organized and respectful to skyclan customs. despite her hard exterior, kiteleaf is actually a very friendly cat to those she holds dear, and she does have a sense of humour. She is extremely social and loves meeting new cats within skyclan, though is outwardly cold to those she has not grown to trust. the senior warrior is an intelligent character with a knack for planning out battles and solving problems. she appears fearless and is extremely confident in her abilities to the point where she is incredibly competitive and borderline egotistical. hobbies include helping out around camp, going on tree-climbing workouts, and chatting with other leafclaws. She is of the mindset that leafclaws are better, but she doesn't outright hate fernclaws.
brief history overview. kiteleaf was raised by two pureblooded leafclaw parents who hammered into her the notion that she was to hold skyclan tradition above anything else. she was raised with a 'tough love' attitude, and her parents, most notably her mother, were never hesitant to express their disappointment if she did anything unbecoming of a leafclaw holding such a high status. her lineage can be traced back to the original forest, and as such was held to towering expectations.
[PTabbedContent][PTab=deputy]
It was another early morning, the air permeated with the crisp scent of leaf-fall, and the trees were shedding their golden leaves along the bed of the forest. Birdsong echoed gently throughout the canopy, providing a gentle wake-up call to the denizens of the wood. One such resident was awake much earlier, however, preoccupied with a particularly pressing task, her towering figure leaned curiously over a patch of sand in SkyClan's sheltered campsite. Kiteleaf, with all the concentration of a hunter's crouch, was tracing grooves into the sediment; Plotting, planning, and practicing her strategies for the removal of an unwanted visitor. It appeared the Sun Birches had become a rather attractive plot of land for a troublesome fox, and as Clan deputy, it was Kiteleaf's duty to see fit that the irritant was expelled with haste while Fennelsky recovered from his particularly nasty bout of illness.
Ah! With one last carved arch, the battle plan was complete. The tortoiseshell looked down upon her creation with pride swelling in her chest, and determination pulsing through her veins. It was a simple, effective mission that minimized risk of harm while maximizing chances of success; A leafclaw patrol would encroach upon the birches first, sticking to the low hanging branches in order to attract the russet demon's attention. Then, a large body of fernclaws would rush in, flanking the beast from either side. Foxes weren't very sizable creatures, so surely this would be overwhelming enough for the wretch to get the memo to leave. But, if it decided to put up a fight, then the leafclaws would strike from above. Not a single warrior would be harmed, if all went to plan. Yes, this was certainly the strategy to use. The deputy rose from to her paws before hastily brushing out her work and bounding swiftly towards the skylog. The Clan would be waking soon - and she would meet them with undeniably promising orders.
Why in the sky was this a leafclaw issue? Kiteleaf had just come back from conversing with a rather demanding group of fernclaws, adamant that she was to deal with the damage caused by the most recent storm. Sure, matters involving trees were often dealt with by her squadron, but this was a matter of pushing through undergrowth and removing debris from fernclaw hunting grounds. Were fernclaws just incapable of touching a tree branch? The cats that complained - were they so allergic to assisting their kin? Why, if her warriors' hunting ground was trampled by weather and they complained to her about getting the fernclaws to fix it, she'd have whacked 'em over the ears! (Well, the verbal equivalent. A good scolding about duty and pride). A sigh forced its way through her maw as she strode across camp to assemble her cats. They would deal with this issue - and they would feel good about it. This was an opportunity to serve SkyClan. If The fernclaws didn't want to do so, then so be it. Real warriors would break bones to keep their Clan in tip-top shape. After calling out to her inferiors, and waiting for the masses to assemble she would address them, head and tail high. Dignified.
"Esteemed leafclaws, I call upon you to assist me in decluttering the floor of the Skyway. Numerous complaints have been brought forth by our fernclaws and they ask that we deal with tending to their hunting grounds. While I understand this may seem like a task meant for those who are ground-bound, I implore you to look inside yourselves and take this mission with honour in your hearts. At base value, this is an opportunity to assist SkyClan as a whole, and isn't that a wonderful thing? So, I ask that those of you willing to assist me in this chore step forth, and I will pick from the lot. The rest of you will attend to your hunting and border patrols as per usual. SkyClan will thank you all for your diligence and sense of duty."
